City of Tampere

Tampere, the gateway to the Lake District of central Finland is located on a narrow forested isthmus between the lakes Pyhäjärvi and Näsijärvi. In addition, some two hundred lakes are located within the city limits. With 175 000 inhabitants Tampere is the third largest city in Finland and the largest inland city of Scandinavia. Together with the city of Nokia, Tampere is the center of commerce, industry and higher education in the area. The Tampere area displays many unique architectural and natural sights. The natural beauty of Pyynikki ridge and the picturesque village of Pispala, architectural wonders created by Raimo and Rauli Pietilä such as Tampere main library, Church of Kaleva etc. are prime examples of interesting Tampere attractions. Särkänniemi amusement park with its dolphinarium, modern planetarium and aquarium, Moominvalley museum and various other museums and spas offer plenty for visitors. Tampere in June

Tampere is a very active city which hosts numerous cultural and sporting festivals each year. Museums, theatres and other institutions offer special summer exhibitions and shows. The beginning of June is the time when spring turns into summer. Days can be warm but nights are usually cool. Daily temperatures are around 20oC but can range from 15 to 25C.
